The house of a friend

Yazd, Iran

In the heart of Yazd’s historic fabric, A House of a Friend rises humbly from a small 121 m² plot, blending with its neighborhood while carrying the warmth of companionship. The house unfolds across three levels: a private underground realm for family life, illuminated by skylights that bring fragments of sky and life above; a welcoming ground floor with an intimate courtyard and a green entrance setback, crowned by a single bench,a gift to neighbors and passersby, inviting pause and connection; and an upper floor for lively gatherings, quiet reflection, or cozy solitude, enriched by a terrace with a small planted edge. The home breathes through its dual-shell latticed facade, solar chimneys, and skylights, balancing Yazd’s sun with gentle airflow. Built from local brick and clay, its form honors the city’s modest geometries while offering contemporary continuity. At every level, the house becomes a friend,to its residents, its street, and its city, celebrating privacy, simplicity, sustainability, and the poetry of daily life.
